Trump’s court appearance won’t be televised
Trump was due to appear before Judge Juan Merchan in a room on the 15th floor of the Manhattan Criminal Court at 2:15pm (4:15am AEST). Things seem to be running a little behind time.
Once in the court he will be arraigned and presented with the indictment detailing the charges against him.
Trump’s lawyers have said all along the former president will then enter a not guilty plea.

A request to televise proceedings was rejected by Merchan and instead a pool of five photographers will be allowed into the court to take still, no video is permitted.
Supporters turn out for the former president
Hundreds of supporters as well as anti-Trump protesters have gathered across the road from the New York courthouse while the president surrenders and is arraigned on the charges relating to the alleged hush money payment.
The pro-Trump supporters have been whistling, shouting and raising placards in support of Trump, who has already announced his 2024 presidential run.
Those against Trump are carrying signs that say “Lock him up”, a reference to a chant often directed at Trump’s opponent Hillary Clinton during his successful presidential campaign in 2016.
The two rival groups have been separated by barricades.

‘WOW – they are going to arrest me’
Our North American correspondent Farrah Tomazin is at the courthouse where inside the District Attorney’s office the 76-year-old was officially arrested and due to be fingerprinted.
He is not expected to have a mugshot taken amid concerns about it being leaked.
As he made the trip from Trump Towers to the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Trump posted to his Truth Social account.
“Heading to Lower Manhattan, the Courthouse. Seems so SURREAL – WOW, they are going to arrest me,” he wrote on the social media app. “Can’t believe this is happening in America.”

Trump arrives at courthouse
Good morning.
Welcome to our live coverage of the arrest and arraignment of former US president Donald Trump.
Trump has arrived at the Manhattan courthouse surrounded by secret service agents to surrender over criminal charges relating to alleged hush money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels.
Trump left Trump Towers just after 1pm (3am AEST) where he pumped his fist and waved to the crowd before making the 6 kilometre trip to the court.
Trump’s lawyers had arranged his time for his surrender at the courthouse and not at a police precinct where most New York defendants would go through the process.
