Shocking moment woman and her dog are mown down after car swerves towards them on country road

THIS is the shocking moment a swerving car ploughed into a pet owner on a country road – tragically killing her dog.

Horrific footage shows the woman with her dog on a lead as they walk along the side of the road in Great Barr.

But seconds later, a black Vauxhall Astra hurtles past – followed by a black Renault Clio that slams into the woman and dog Millie as it swerves across the road.

They are both shoved into a bush by the car as the Astra screeches to a halt further up the road.

A man and woman can then be seen emerging from the bush – later followed by a man in a tracksuit.

The footage shows them running up the road to the waiting Astra before cutting out.

West Midlands Police have released the CCTV in a bid to catch the culprits, who fled the scene after the horror at around 5pm on July 22.

They said the woman thankfully survived but dog Millie tragically died at the side of the road.

Officers are now hunting the people seen running in the clip and believe the two cars were travelling together.

A spokesperson said: "We’ve released this shocking footage as part of an urgent appeal for information.

"The crystal-clear CCTV footage shows a number of people running away from the scene. We’re appealing to trace them, and need anyone with information to get in touch.

"We’re also trying to find the black Astra that stops further down the road. We believe the two cars were travelling together and the people are probably friends with each other.

"Anyone with information is urged to get in touch via Live Chat at www.west-midlands.police.uk 8am – midnight or call 101 anytime."
