Schools are put in ‘lockdown’ after teenage boy was stabbed in Darlington as police hunt attacker

  • Emergency services were called to serious assault in Darlington at 12.45pm  
  • Boy in his mid-teens was found with stab wounds and he was taken to hospital 
  • Police said suspect has been identified and they are primed to make an arrest  

Schools were put into lockdown after a teenager was stabbed and police hunt for the attacker.   

Emergency services were called to a serious assault on Collingsway, in Darlington, County Durham, at around 12.45pm on Monday afternoon.

A boy in his mid-teens was found with stab wounds and he was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

Police said a suspect has been identified and an operation is currently under way to make an arrest.

Councillors for Brinkburn and Faverdale posted a warning on Facebook over the serious incident saying Wyvern School was put on lockdown.

It was also reported that West Park Academy, in Darlington, was put in lockdown.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: ‘Police were alerted to reports of a serious assault on Collingsway, in Darlington at approximately 12.45pm this afternoon (June 21).

‘Colleagues from the ambulance service reported a stabbing incident and officers attended the scene.

‘The victim, a male in his mid-teens was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, suffering from stab wounds.

‘A suspect has been identified and a police operation is under way to make an arrest.

‘It is believed the suspect and victim are known to each other.’ 

A statement from Councillors for Brinkburn and Faverdale’s Facebook page said: ‘There is currently a serious ongoing incident within our ward in the West Park area with Police and Air Ambulance in attendance.

‘Due to this incident, Wyvern School is on lockdown and children need to be collected from school.

‘Please be aware of necessary police activity and stay safe. We will put further updates on this page as we are made aware.’

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 12.29 to an incident on Collingsway, Darlington.

‘We dispatched a specialist paramedic, a double crewed ambulance and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance. One patient was taken to hospital.’
