Chinese nurses working to battle the coronavirus outbreak shaved the hair off their heads to allow them to more quickly put on their protective gear in the hospital, according to a report.
Four nurses made the difficult decision to sacrifice their locks in order to improve their efficiency on the job at a hospital in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak, according to NewsFlare.
“I keep the long hair for a long time, I did not even want to cut a little bit. But in order to fight against the virus, it is worth to shave all my hair,” nurse Ding Danyi, 26, told the outlet.
The nurses’ decision comes as the virus, officially known as COVID-19, has killed at least 1,367 people in China — mostly in the central province of Hubei, where the city of Wuhan is located. The number of confirmed cases worldwide topped 60,000 Thursday morning.
