'My new McDonald's McSpicy burger had a BITE out of it – and I wasn't the only one,' furious mum says | The Sun

A MUM claims her child was served a McDonald's chicken burger with a bite taken out of it.

The parent ordered a McSpicy for the youngster from the drive-thru at Cameron Toll Shopping Centre in Edinburgh on Wednesday night.

It wasn't until she got home and opened the box that she realised a huge chunk was missing from the meat and bun, she says.

The mum immediately alerted the fast food chain to the horrifying discovery, and bosses eventually apologised profusely.

They allegedly claimed the family was given a "returned burger" instead of a fresh one.

A previous customer had sent it back to the kitchen and it was mistakenly repackaged and given to her, it is understood.

The mum told EdinburghLive: "I was horrified.

"I was extremely annoyed and couldn’t believe that this had just happened. I actually felt physically sick.

"If I hadn’t looked in the box before handing it to my child, they might have eaten it thinking it was me or their sibling.

"It would have been contaminated with a stranger's germs, blood or anything from their mouth.

"It's just disgusting to think about."

To make matters worse, she claims another customer experienced the same problem that same evening.

"While I was waiting to speak to the manager, another man who looked annoyed stood at the counter and also asked to speak to a manager," she said.

"When the manager came over I explained that I had a drive-thru order and upon opening the box there was a huge bite out of the McSpicy.

"The man beside me then said, 'Look, mine too'."

The staff member reportedly gave them both replacement burgers, but the mum feels like that isn't enough.

She said: "I asked him, 'Do you think it's acceptable just to hand me another one with no apology?'

"He said, 'No', and then apologised and said he would refund my order.

"I explained that it wasn't about the money but the fact I'd been sold an item that had been eaten by someone else and how disgusting and unhygienic that is."

After reviewing the store's CCTV to work out how the mistake had happened, the woman claims the manager phoned her to confirm the meals had been returned from an old order that had accidentally been placed on the hot food shelf and resold.

The mum now feels uneasy about ever eating at McDonald's again.

A spokesperson for the fast food giant said: "We are very sorry to hear about this customer’s experience.

"Food safety is of the utmost importance to us and we place great emphasis on quality control, following rigorous standards to avoid any imperfections.

"We understand the restaurant team contacted the customer following a thorough investigation and would encourage an ongoing dialogue with our Customer Services team to find a resolution."
