Mastanamma, from Andhra Pradesh, India, was the world's oldest YouTuber who ran the popular Country Foods channel.
The channel was created and managed by her grandson K Laxman and his pal Srinath Reddy and became an overnight sensation after launching in 2016.
Laxman has previously said the idea came to him while he was cooking with some friends.
He said: "One night, I was sitting with my friends and we didn’t have anything to eat. That night we prepared fried rice and we thought of starting a YouTube channel so that people can watch and learn.
"Then we filmed it on a mobile and edited and uploaded it onto YouTube.
"Initially it was for fun but then it went viral. People who live in cities totally forget the traditional way of cooking. I wanted to show how people used to cook traditionally in the olden days.
"After thinking about it, I was searching for a suitable person, then I thought of my grandmother, Mastanamma."
The channel had a homely and rustic appeal – throughout episodes Mastanamma would share anecdotes about her life while cooking on an open wood fire.
She would also use her nails to peel vegetables and serve meals on traditional Indian banana leaves.
According to the BBC, her most popular dish was her iconic watermelon chicken.
And last year Reddy told HuffPost India: "After a few months, we went to Laxman's village, and visited his grandmother.
"She cooks so well and has a very different, traditional style of cooking. That's when we decided to shoot her. The response was great — everyone liked her style."
BBC Marathi's Onkar Karambalekar said: "Her completely unique take on traditional Indian cooking was what made her a star."
Scores of fans paid tribute to Mastanamma – dubbed the grandmother with a toothless smile – on social media.
