A BOOZER swigging from a beer at a packed beach front baffled ITV viewers by insisting the Covid-19 lockdown should be stricter.

Despite visiting Brighton Beach on a day out with relatives he claimed he wanted to see "none of us be allowed out" to avoid "a massive rise in the deaths."

The man was holding a bottle of San Miguel as he enjoyed the sunshine earlier this week.

It comes as cooped-up residents flocked to beaches again as Britain basked in sunshine for a second day in a row, with temperatures topping 27C.

Britain's death toll passed 36,000 today, but there are signs people are starting to tire of the Covid-19 lockdown, which was brought in on March 23.

The San Miguel drinker told ITV's Good Morning Britain: "I know we’re down here drinking beer so it looks like we’re saying what’s good for us is not good for everyone else.

"But if we carry on the way we’re going I think we’re going to have a major lockdown in two weeks, the way that we let the restrictions up.

"In two weeks I think we’re going to see a massive rise in the deaths again.

"I think we should be more stricter like Spain and none of us be allowed out."

One of the man's female relatives told the GMB interviewer: "When it’s family, it’s a little bit different when it comes to six people.

"We’re all family, and we’re all in each other’s homes, so we’re allowed to do that."

Sunbathers today again made the most of their new-found freedom following the easing of lockdown restrictions – but many forgot about social distancing.

This week, people have headed to beaches and beauty spots across the UK, with England, Scotland and Wales enjoying their hottest days of 2020 yesterday.

But there are fears people won't be able to keep more than two metres apart as they head outdoors.

Another woman interviewed at Brighton Beach admitted: "Whilst everyone has been in lockdown for so long and it’s the hottest day of the year, everyone’s going to come to the beach, especially when you’ve got places serving a beer."

But Brighton residents said daytrippers had made social distancing tough, with people appearing to ignore the rules.

I think we should be more stricter like Spain and none of us be allowed out.

The man's claim that the lockdown should be tightened prompted amusement on Twitter.

One person tweeted: "Everyone except him should have stayed at home, it's obvious."

Another said: "Wow. Just wow.

And a third said: "You couldn’t make it up!"

Last week, a mum who drove an hour and a half to the seaside left BBC viewers bewildered – when she complained about others doing the same.

Jane Peacock said her day out at Lulworth Cove in Dorset was so busy it was "like being in Tesco", adding that many were not social distancing.

The heatwave is set to continue into the bank holiday weekend.
