Facebook as well as its sister social media platforms WhatsApp and Instagram faced massive outages worldwide on Wednesday.

More than a thousand people in countries including the United States, Morocco, Mexico, Bolivia and Brazil reported outages since 6 p.m. to DownDetector.com.

Nick Tesfaye, who lives in the Moroccan city of Meknes, reported to the web service that Facebook had a ‘total blackout.’

Facebook’s social media platforms including WhatsApp and Instagram faced massive outages worldwide on Wednesday

The outage reports come after a massive internet blackout on Tuesday which brought down hundreds of websites across the world.

That blackout, which was been blamed on a single unnamed IT customer, prevented millions of people from accessing sites including Amazon, Spotify and Netflix, as well as the BBC, UK government and the White House.

It was caused by a software bug triggered when a customer for Fastly – the US cloud-computing company responsible for the problems – changed their settings, the firm said.

It was not immediately clear if the Facebook outage on Wednesday was related to the larger outage.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Facebook for more information and additional comment about the outage.
