Meng Wanzhou, who was arrested in Vancouver, is sought for extradition by the United States.
Authorities in Canada have arrested Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Chinese tech giant Huawei .
Ian McLeod, spokesperson for Canada’s Justice Department, said on Wednesday the arrest took place in Vancouver on December 1.
He said Meng is sought for extradition by the United States.
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this year that US authorities are investigating whether Huawei violated sanctions on Iran.
Huawei is one of the world’s leading makers of telecommunications network equipment.
Meng is also deputy chairman of the board and the daughter of company founder Ren Zhengfei.
