Duke and Duchess of Cambridge hire former Team GB triathlete turned high-flying executive Lee Thompson as their new PR chief

  • The fitness enthusiast also worked at the Association of Chief Police Officers
  • Comes after Cambridges faced criticism for a ‘tone deaf’ tour of the Caribbean

It’s a job that can sometimes involve hard yards. But that should be no problem for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s new PR chief – a triathlete who has competed for Great Britain.

The couple have hired Lee Thompson, a high-flying executive from a top US TV network.

The Leeds University graduate, who is in his mid-30s, helped boost CNBC’s YouTube audience by 600 per cent.

Before working at the London office of the US network, the British-born fitness enthusiast worked at the Association of Chief Police Officers and top PR firm Freuds.

His appointment comes after the Cambridges faced criticism earlier this year for what was described as a ‘tone deaf’ tour of the Caribbean.

The couple faced protests in parts of Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas as they represented the Queen.

Despite the criticism, the Cambridges remain the two most popular members of the Royal Family after the Queen.

Their children played a leading role during the Platinum Jubilee weekend and William was cheered by crowds when he delivered a speech during the Party at the Palace concert.

The appointment comes as the Cambridges are expected to announce a move to Windsor.

Mr Thompson could not be reached for comment.
