Adults spend three YEARS of their lives cooking – but still think their meals are 'basic'

THE average adult will spend THREE YEARS of their lives cooking – but many admit they're hardly cooking up a storm with their ‘basic’ grub, a study has found.

Most Brits spends seven hours and 37 minutes a week making their meals – that is a whopping 17 days a year.

But Londoners spend more than nine hours a week over the hot rings.

The typical brekkie takes 22 minutes to slap up, while lunch takes half an hour.

Evening meals take the longest at 49 minutes, but only 23 minutes to chow down.

But 22 percent feel they are hardly cooking up a storm, describing their food as 'basic'

A quarter even feel time in the kitchen feels like a 'chore' while a third admitted their cooking is ‘safe'.

While 18 per cent dream of having more time to cook impressive dishes.

The study also found four in 10 have four ‘go-to’ meals they stick with – while the average Brit says its been 27 days since they last rustled up something new.

Almost a quarter blamed a lack of creativity and a fifth admitted fear of failure in dipping their toes into a new dish.

Anna Beheshti, spokesperson for rice brand Tilda, which commissioned the research said: “It’s easy to get stuck in a rut when cooking and we know many people are looking for inspiration when it comes to creative, flavoursome meals.

"It’s typically referred to as the heart of the home and with life getting busy again, people are looking for hacks and shortcuts to make quick, tasty meals."

The study of 2,000 Brits was conducted by OnePoll.
