Nell, 28, spoke with Christine Lampard, 40, on Lorraine this morning following Nancy’s death on Victoria, an exit which was a shock with the character having appeared on the drama since it began in 2016.
Nancy was a much loved character on the ITV drama, having been Queen Victoria’s head dresser as well as a close acquaintance to the the historical royal figure.
With Nancy and Victoria close allies on the period drama, it meant actresses Nell and Jenna Coleman, 32, had to spend quite a lot of time with one another.
Speaking about her exit from the show, Nell was asked numerous questions, including how Jenna stays in role on set, even when the cameras aren’t rolling.
She’s very much in it
Host Christine asked: “I love the fact that Jenna, and you can explain this to me, she never breaks out of character when you’re filming, is that right?”
Nell explained: “She’s very much in it.
“She’s very focussed and you sort of have to be when you’re numbering on a call sheet on a show and you’re in every single day throughout the entire day and all this extracurricular stuff that Jenna had to do with piano lessons and language lessons and riding and all the things.
“It’s very full on,” Nell continued, revealing the extent of Jenna’s commitment to the role.
Before conversation moved to Jenna’s behind-the-scene antics, Nell discusses a mishap which occurred with her exit from the period-set drama.
“We had a few false starts. I think we filmed a scene we thought was my last scene and I was in floods of tears, like ‘Jenna, goodbye.’
“Then the show called me and said, ‘Can you come in and do another scene next week?’
“So, I kind of had several goodbyes,” Nell explained.
“It was very emotional and Jenna gave me a really lovely parting gift which was an actual Victorian antique hairpin which was beautiful and obviously a homage to the fact Skerrett was her hairdresser to begin with.”
However, it seems another exit could be around the corner as lead star Jenna hinted her main role could be recast as Victoria’s reign continues into the historical figure’s later years.
Jenna made the revelation whilst appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show last week, where she told the host there had been conversations about bringing in a new actress.
Jenna said: “There are conversations happening about jowls and how realistic we can go with jowls…I don’t know yet.
“There is lots of talk of who will be the older Victoria but I don’t know as to when that is going to happen, genuinely.”
However, she did reveal how the creative team have managed to make her look older, with Jenna portraying the monarch from the age of 18 to her mid-30s.
“We are going slightly wider on the corsets obviously having given birth to seven children. And a lot less makeup, the make-up [team] are really pleased if I get a grey hair.
“We are very subtly beginning it,” Jenna explained.
Victoria continues Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
