After 11 seasons, AMC’s post-apocalyptic drama The Walking Dead came to a satisfying end, which paved the beginning of a host of new spin-offs. As fans prepare for the franchise’s expansion, actor Jeffrey Dead Morgan teased the dangers ahead for his character Negan and Maggie Rhee (played by Lauren Cohan).

While fans were overcome with joy to see the return of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne Hawthorne (Danai Gurira), Negan’s storyline in TWD came to an end.

Before setting off, he shared a simple nod with Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) who briefly stepped away to look out the window.

While it’s yet to be seen where Negan will journey to first, fans are aware his adventure will eventually reunite him with his former adversary, Maggie.

Although they patched things up in the finale, Maggie despised Negan for brutally murdering her husband Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) in season seven.

However, the two began their strides towards forgiveness after Negan revealed he wanted to kill Pamela Milton (Laila Robbins) for Maggie.

He admitted to finally understanding what she must have felt when Glenn was killed, after Negan’s wife Annie Smith (Medina Senghore) was almost murdered in front of him.

Before apologising to Maggie, Negan said: “You take Pammy out with this thing, hell is going to rain down on you, and you ain’t going to come back.

“And you have to come back, so I’m going to do it.”

However, Maggie confessed she couldn’t forgive him: “Glenn was beautiful. I’ll never love anyone like that again, I remember his smile, his goodness, the way he made me feel.

“But when I look at you, all I see is that bat coming down on his head.”

However, she invited Negan to stay so their complicated friendship could continue to play out in their upcoming spin-off.

Speaking on Dead City, Negan star Jeffrey hinted at the murderous version of his character coming back into the fold: “I think time apart probably will make it worse.

“Negan has an opportunity to kind of fall into some old habits, because it’s all a survival mechanism for him, especially if he’s not with the group.

“The group kind of tamed him in a lot of ways, and to fit in, he had to stop being who he was and I think away from this group, he is likely to fall into some old traps and old behaviours,” he continued, hinting he could revert back his rivalry with Maggie.

Although Maggie has longed to get revenge for Glenn’s death, fans will have to wait and see if she will finally leap at the opportunity in Dead City.

Jeffrey teased: “As uneasy of an alliance it is that Maggie and Negan have, I think Negan being out of Maggie’s line of sight for a couple years is still never going to make what happened for her go away.

“I don’t know if us getting along in any way is going to last. I don’t know if it can.”

He continued: “Look, we know that he’s going to run off to New York City, it’s him and Maggie, and there’s not a lot of people with him.

“So, if I do the math on this, he’s going to be in trouble. It’s going to be a bad combination for him,” Jeffrey told Entertainment Weekly.

Although Negan has been significantly softened by his wife and children, he and Maggie will continue their fight for survival together in New York City.

Fans will have to tune in to see if Maggie will still have it out for Negan and finally get revenge by betraying him.
