The tenth season of The Walking Dead has returned with six special bonus episodes, and Father Gabriel (played by Seth Gilliam) has certainly been a highlight of the most recent instalments. Teasing the future of AMC’s flagship zombie franchise, the series regular has recently opened up about what he’d like to see in TWD’s upcoming film trilogy.
Father Gabriel and Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) could be set to reunite in The Walking Dead’s forthcoming series of feature films.
Following his powerhouse performance in this month’s season 10 bonus episodes, Seth Gilliam chatted with Digital Spy about his predictions for the new trilogy.
During the interview, he suggested the two survivors could have an impactful yet fleeting meeting at some point in the show’s future.
Sharing how he’d like Gabriel to eventually meet his end, he said: “Saving Rick [Grimes] in the movie.”
“Just when Death’s got its long, bony fingers around Rick’s neck, Father Gabriel somehow appears.”
Gilliam then teased: “He turns up in the helicopter, with a chainsaw.”
Rick Grimes was last seen at the start of season nine being airlifted to safety by an old rival, Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh).
Although there’s still a possibility of a surprise appearance in TWD’s 11th and final season, Rick will officially return in a trilogy of films, which are hoped to be released in theatres.
Rick’s love interest Michonne (Danai Gurira) will also be joining the new series after her curtain call in season ten.
Chief content officer Scott M. Gimple is currently working on the films’ scripts, with comic book creator Robert Kirkman also heavily involved.
Meanwhile, Gilliam’s latest comments continue a worrying trend that may suggest Gabriel’s death could be coming sooner or later.
After he and friend Aaron (Ross Marquand) shared a long, dark night of the soul in the recent episode ‘One More’, the star confessed his character is finally ready to call it a day.

Asked if Gabriel was afraid to die, he told Entertainment Weekly: “No, I don’t believe that he is.”
He then explained: “I’m not sure that he knows what’s on the other side, but I don’t think he’s afraid anymore, no.”
The until recently devout Christian preacher has been a series mainstay and consistent fan favourite since his debut in TWD’s fifth season.
However, after facing off against Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and the Whisperers, his mounting trauma could prove too much to handle by the series finale.
Gilliam added: “Seeing the kind of depraved nature, the way these people chose to live in the Whisperer War has been more traumatic for Gabriel than he could care to admit.
“He was at death’s door. He was right at the precipice of going.”
Fans can now only hope the diligent survivor keeps his will to live for long enough to reconvene with his old friend Rick Grimes one last time before it’s too late.
The Walking Dead season 10 continues Sunday, March 28 on AMC.
