The Chase Jenny Ryan’s life – mystery boyfriend to off-screen makeover

Brainbox Jenny Ryan has dazzled fans with her impeccable quizzing knowledge and smart-witted commentary on ITV's The Chase and its spin-off show Beat The Chaser.

Known to viewers as The Vixen, the 40 year old joined the popular daytime programme in 2015 and quickly became a fan favourite.

Hailing from the English town Bolton, Jenny's first quiz show appearance was on University Challenge in 2003, where she helped the University of Leeds to reach the semi-finals.

But although she appears on TVs across the nation most weeks, not much is known about the star's life away from the show.

Daily Star has taken a look.

Relationship

Not much is known about whether Jenny is currently seeing someone at the moment as she is fairly guarded about her love life.

Despite this, The TV star did previously mention a "boyfriend" on social media but remained fiercely private about his identity.

Mentioning her significant other in 2016, Jenny replied to a post from the account WeRateDogs.

She penned: "My boyfriend is shark phobic but dog-obsessed so I am showing him all #BarkWeek pics to help him get over his fear. Cheers x."

However, it has not been established who this mystery man is and whether they are still together now.

Love of drag

Jenny is also a big fan of drag, and in her spare time she has attended Dragcon in the past – a convention to celebrate the queens and their artform.

The brainiac also shared photos from inside some of her favourites' booths, and also posed for a photo with US star Bianca Del Rio.

In a recent episode of The Chase, presenter Bradley Walsh asked her what her name would be if she was to work in the drag industry.

Opening up, she said: "Well, I've got a couple actually.

"Based on the fact that if I'd been born a boy I was going to be Declan, I think my drag name would be Dec-o-dent."

In February, Jenny hit headlines after she took the stage to sing a duet alongside drag queen Sandra London.

An onlooker who was at the event at the time said: "A lot of people spotted Jenny was there and they were really excited because they love watching her on The Chase.

"They were even more thrilled when she got up on stage and sang for everyone.

"Sandra and Jenny are both gifted vocally, so their duet got a great reaction. And then when Jenny did I Will Survive it was fantastic."

Off-screen makeover

Whilst Jenny is known for her show-stopped black outfits, spectacles and impressive beehives whilst appearing as the Vixen, she is much more casual in real life.

The star has sent her fans wild after sharing pictures of herself looking very laidback, swapping her intimidating look with no make-up, no glasses and a simple hairstyle.

After she posted a picture of herself looking very different to her on-screen persona, she was inundated with compliments on her toned down look on Instagram.

Singing career

Jenny left many viewers stunned when she showcased her hidden singing talent on Celebrity X Factor in 2019.

Proving to the nation that there is a lot more to the Chaser than general knowledge and quick-witted put-downs, the star sailed her way into the finals finishing a respectable third place.

Fans had hoped that Jenny would have started a singing career off the back of the show however due to the coronavirus pandemic, things became a lot slower in that department.

Talking to The Sun Online, a source told the publication: "The X Factor: Celebrity finished at the end of 2019 and Jenny had hoped to keep singing and performing.

"However the pandemic in March 2020 put a halt to all of that unfortunately. But she still loves singing so who knows what will happen in the future."

Despite this, the Chaser has continued to make TikTok videos where she performs for fans online.

Other quizzing shows

Before appearing on The Chase, Jenny was a serial quizzer and appeared in plenty of other popular quizzing shows.

Jenny first appeared on University Challenge, helping the University of Leeds to reach the semi-finals in 2003.

In 2006 she appeared on Mastermind and chose the American television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer as her specialist subject.

She also featured in both series of Are You an Egghead? in 2008 and the following year.

The Vixen also found success on Only Connect as a member of the team The Gamblers, who ended up winning the third series of the show in 2010.

In addition to this, she has made appearances on Fifteen to One and BBC show Weakest Link.
