MTV’s ‘The Challenge’ Season 37 trailer is officially out
Fans have waited long enough for MTV’s The Challenge to release the trailer for season 37. Spoiler accounts noted for months that the new theme was likely to be Spies, Lies, and Allies — and they were correct. The trailer shows host T.J. Lavin introducing the show’s theme to the contestants in Croatia.
We’ll have to wait and see the full extent of the gameplay and twists this season holds. But the trailer shows the cast contains 17 U.S. contestants and 17 international contestants. “You’ve got team Germany, team Romania, team Nigeria,” returning contestant Kyle Christie from the U.K. states in the trailer. “If they band together, we’re screwed.”
It looks like the season will start out with a U.S. contestant pairing with an international contestant. But Ashley Mitchell states in the trailer that “all the vets are in this super alliance.” It sounds like many of the U.S. players will ditch their international rookie partners in a hurry.
The trailer features players who reportedly leave due to coronavirus protocol
While the trailer for MTV’s The Challenge Season 37 features a wealth of rookies and veterans, it seems we won’t see one of the players for very long. Spoilers suggest a coronavirus outbreak among either the cast or crew caused production to shut down early in the season. And it seems it also messed with the scheduling timing, causing at least one player to bow out of the show.
“Some people who were on the show had to go home, not because they had covid that we’re aware of, but because the scheduling of how the season got pushed back on its end date interfered with some of the cast members’ ability to stay,” The Challenge Chronicles podcast shared. ” … The beginning of this season looks like it’s going to be a bit chaotic ….”
The podcast then notes the trailer shows Amber Borzotra coming in as a replacement. As for who went home, one of the players is rumored to be veteran Nam Vo. And he’s featured quite prominently in the trailer, which likely means production will acknowledge the coronavirus outbreak at the beginning of the season. Big T Fazakerley is also rumored to leave the show and return after the second coronavirus quarantine, according to PinkRose on Vevmo and The Challenge Fandom page.
In the trailer, Nam is seen telling another competitor, “Russian roulette,” and he shakes his hand as if he’s gambling with dice. Prior to leaving the show, it seems he may have some tricks up his sleeve for gameplay. It’s unclear at what point Big T exits and reenters the game, but she’s prominent in the trailer as well.
When is ‘The Challenge’ Season 37 coming out?
So, when can fans get to see MTV’s The Challenge Season 37 premiere? According to the trailer, we’ll get to see the new season on Aug. 11, 2021, at 8 p.m. EST on MTV.
In the meantime, fans can watch select seasons of The Challenge on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Paramount+. Paramount+ also has every episode of The Challenge: All Stars, which aired around the same time as season 36. And it looks like there’s going to be another season of All Stars as well, so fans should stay on the lookout for more information on season 2 moving forward.
ViacomCBS did not return a request for comment regarding season 37’s coronavirus protocol production rumors by the time of publication.
