Strictly Come Dancingwas back with a bang asthis year’s celebrities met their professional partnersand performed in the first group dance of the series.
Among those competing to lift the Glitterball in a few months’ time is actress Kym Marsh.
Kym, 46, was paired with pro dancer Graziano Di Prima and as the pair shared their joy at meeting each other and getting to work together over the next few weeks, it seems that this isn’t their first meeting.
Kym currently hosts Morning Live and during the show she ends with a bit of dancing, dubbed “Strictly fitness” and that’s where she previously touched base with the professional dancer.
“I have been very fortunate to have met several of the pros while I've been doing Morning Live because they've come on and done, the little Strictly fitness bit at the end,” said Kym.
She continued: “That said, not knowing them absolutely inside out, but knowing them nonetheless, and actually Graziano is one of those that I got to know quite well.
“He came to watch me – him and his wife – came to watch me in Fatal Attraction when I was on in Manchester – just a genuinely lovely man.”
Before appearing on the show, Kym said: "I’ve considered doing Strictly for years but the timings never worked out. I’m so delighted that this year they have!
“I’m a huge fan of the show and can’t believe I’m going to go from watching at home in my pyjamas to actually dancing in front of the judges in a glittery dress, it’s unreal!”
And recently, speaking to press including OK! about joining the show, Kym, whorecently became a grandma for the second time, admitted she was"delighted" to be repping the grandmothers.
Asked how she felt, the actress declared: "I'm delighted to be repping the grandmas, thank you very much, very very pleased with that. It's about time a grandma won!"
Kym, who is married to Scott Ratcliff and has children Emily, 25, David, 27, and Polly, 11, from previous relationships, said: "My kids are really supportive and loving it all.
"My little grandson is three and he just loves dancing, he won't fully understand what I'm doing but he'll be delighted that I'm dancing. I'm going to try and get him down to some of the rehearsals."
This year’s show has seen two same-sex couplesand fans have been quick to praise the diversity.
Winner of the 2021 series Giovanni Pernicehas been paired up with Richie Anderson, while comedianJayde Adamswill be dancing withKaren Hauer and people have since applauded the pairings, and branded them as “historic”.
“LOVE that Giovanni is in the same-sex partnership! Another historic moment,” wrote one fan, as someone else said: “#Strictly I'm so happy for Karen, she's been vocal about wanting a same sex partnership, no doubt you'll get some vile, tiresome complaints, but the show is modernising and moving with the times.”
