Strictly Come Dancing favourite Faye Tozer admits surprise at being asked to take part due to 'dancing experience' as Ashley Roberts faces backlash from viewers

The Steps singer, 43, is a trained choreographer with skills including salsa, jazz, folk and Bollywood on her CV, as well as a series of West End roles.

She told The Sun: “I didn’t think I would ever be considered for Strictly because I come from a dancing pop group.

"I didn’t think that I would ever get the chance to be on there.”

The admission comes after a public backlash against fellow contestant Ashley Roberts.

The ex-Pussycat Doll, 37, who denied her dance background would give her an advantage, has been in the bottom two for three weeks in a row.

Asked if it was fair the two of them were streets ahead of their rival celebrities, mum-of-one Faye said: “There’s always somebody with more experience than others but the thing we have in common is that none of us have ever done the ballroom or the Latin and some people are just natural movers.

“They want to have some sort of standard and level because if everybody couldn’t manage it every week you wouldn’t be able to create such a beautiful and amazing show.”

Ashley survived the dance-off with Paralympian Lauren Steadman, 25, being sent home from the show.
