Strictly Come Dancing fans emotional as they spot Helen Skelton’s dad crying

Strictly Come Dancing fans were heartbroken as Helen Skelton ’s dad broke down during Saturday night's emotional finale.

The 39 year old presenter was cheered on by her mum, Janet, and dad, Richard, as she performed in one of the closest-fought Strictly finals of all time, narrowly missing out on the Glitterball trophy as Hamza Yassin triumphed.

Emotions ran high during the final, and as Helen performed with her partner Gorka Marquez for one of the last times, viewers spotted Helen's doting dad wiping away tears.

After noticing the sweet moment, one fan tweeted: “Helen's dad crying has set me off."

Another said: “Helen just brilliant. And her poor old dad was crying."

“The whole world now loves @helenskelton’s dad as much as they love Helen," said a third.

Prior to Helen's last dances, her parents featured in a sweet VT to cheer her on, with her two sons also making an appearance.

Helen's dad said: "It's been so good watching her."

Helen's Strictly stint proved to be an emoti

onal one and prior to getting her dancing shoes on, the presenter admitted she signed up to bring some joy into her kids' lives after a difficult few months.

It’s been a tough year for the mum-of-three who split from her husband of eight years, rugby player Richie Myler, in April. The break-up came just four months after Helen gave birth to their third child together.

Helen later said she and Richie had been living separate lives when baby Elise was born.

Shortly after the split was announced, Richie embarked on a new relationship with Stephanie Thirkill. The couple are now expecting their first child together.

Hoping to find herself after a year of turmoil, Helen joined Strictly life as a last-minute addition. She said after signing up: "I just wanted to do something fun! It was a good chance for my family to see me smiling and it's a fun adventure.”

Reflecting on her Strictly journey during Saturday night's final, the mum-of-three said: "I didn't realise the effect that Strictly had on people. My parents and kids have been so excited and so into it."

As she left the dancefloor after her last dance, she tearfully told partner Gorka: "You put faith in me that I didn't have."

However, it was wildlife cameraman Hamza Yassin who went on to lift the glitterball trophy.

Speaking to Tess and Claudia, the 32 year old conservationist said his dance partner, Jowita Przystał, was "an angel disguised as a human".

Dubbed the next David Attenborough, the Countryfile presenter has been tipped as the next great nature documentary maker.
