Angel Adoree and her husband Dick Strawbridge have been working around the clock since 2015 to restore their 19th-century castle, Chateau de la Motte Husson, with Channel 4 documenting every step of the way for the hugely popular series Escape to the Chateau. While COVID-19 threw a major spanner in the renovation works, the couple hoped they would be able to host weddings in 2022. However, Angel has revealed to This Morning viewers plans are “now on hold”.
Angel and Dick appeared on Friday’s instalment of This Morning to be interviewed by hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary about the return of Escape to the Chateau, which is now in its eighth season.
Since the Channel 4 series first aired, viewers have followed the couple’s close-knit family life alongside their ongoing refurbishment works for their 45-room castle.
However, the couple has had to slow down over the past 18 months for reasons beyond their control.
Keen to find out whether the husband and wife duo were now on track to host weddings at the stunning chateau next year, Dermot asked: “I guess 2022 will be the year of the wedding for you, how are you gearing up for that now?”
However, Angel sadly revealed: “So we are not now because we are still a bit messy.
“But what will happen at the start of next year is that it will be kind of similar to when we were doing our first events.
“Everyone needs to come out and we need to get our suppliers and next year there’s going to be a lot of work to get ready.”
Alison quipped: “If I find a husband, can I get married at the chateau please?”
Dick invited Alison to visit the chateau regardless of whether she gets married or not, but Angel told the This Morning host she’d jump at the chance to sort out her wedding.
“It would be such an honour, I’d love to do your wedding,” she added.
During the rest of the interview, Angel went into detail about the constant renovation works she and Dick are trying to keep on top of.
She explained: “We are getting there, we are comfortable now and this year we have seriously knuckled down.
“Next year is going to be the year of celebration, but this year is the year of dust and grime and me covering up and hoovering the carpets twice a day.”
Dick told Dermot and Alison that work on the castle’s roof has started, and despite it being a “huge job” he and Angel are “getting there”.
The couple revealed they found some inscriptions on the roof from a century ago which they both found “very emotional”.
However, the pair couldn’t unveil too much as more is set to come to light in an episode of the latest series which is yet to air.
Dick added: “There has been so much work [going into the roof], and we couldn’t do all that if there were weddings on, so we thought we’d just bite the bullet and just try and get ready for next year.”
Escape to the Chateau has a huge fanbase, with the Channel 4 show getting almost three million viewers every episode.
Escape to the Chateau continues on Sunday at 9pm on Channel 4.
