Saturday Night Takeaway fans unimpressed by ‘cruel’ prank on first-time dad

Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway viewers were left unimpressed on Saturday's episode after an "uncomfortable" prank aired on the ITV show.

The Geordie duo are known for pranking people on the hit show, including celebrities, and the pair had teamed up with guest Amy, who wanted to prank her partner Liam, a serial prankster.

She had contacted Ant and Dec last year to ask for their help in getting revenge on her partner, and the presenters helped her to stage three different pranks after she found out she was pregnant at the start of 2022.

Amy and Liam attended a 4D baby scan, antenatal classes and family photoshoot, which were all fake and had been staged by Ant and Dec with Amy's help.

At the 4D scan, a baby which wasn't Amy and Liam's began waving and making hand gestures as the sonographer, who was really an actress, played music and told Liam to speak to Amy's stomach.

The dad-to-be was visibly amazed as he watched the baby move on the screen, with no idea his partner was pranking him with Ant and Dec, who were speaking to Amy through an ear piece during the scan.

Ant and Dec revealed: "We've made a totally fake 4D scan to play to the screen, it's not even his baby!"

Later, Ant and Dec staged a fake family photoshoot, where an oblivious Liam was asked to pull silly faces.

While Liam laughed it off on Saturday Night Takeaway and appeared in good spirits, some viewers at home didn't find the sketch as humorous and took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

"Love Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway but the baby scan prank wasn't cool," one person said, as a second agreed saying: "Such bad taste for Saturday night takeaway to do a prank at a baby scan."

A third TV viewer added: "The photoshoot is kinda funny, that's always redoable. But that 4D scan being ruined makes me feel really uncomfortable. Especially knowing how easy it is for things to go wrong during a pregnancy."

Another show watcher wrote: "Using a baby ultrasound for a prank is a bit too far and cruel #SaturdayNightTakeaway @itvtakeaway @antanddec," while a different fan added: "This isn't sitting comfortably with me for some reason. Feels cruel. Weird thing to make a prank about. #SaturdayNightTakeaway."

However, others were quick to defend the ITV show and revealed they found the prank funny. One person responded: "Holy sh** chill out its funny," while a second person said: "Just be happy for the couple and the lovely baby."

Liam appeared to see the funny side of the prank too, and was definitely surprised as he watched back the clips of himself on Saturday Night Takeaway with partner Amy. The couple revealed they welcomed their first child, a baby boy name Finley, at the end of 2022.

A heartwarming clip showing Ant and Dec meeting baby Finley was shown, and the pair then revealed to Amy and Liam that they'd set up a child saver account for their newborn son.

The presenters explained that they will be putting £1,000 in the account every year until Finley turns 18, much to Amy and Liam's shock.
