    The Royle Family star Peter Martin, who also starred in Emmerdale for six years, has died at the age of 82.

    The loveable actor boasted a colourful TV and film career, with fans remembering him through his role as the Royle's neighbour Joe Carroll alongside Ricky Tomlinson and Sue Johnston for 14 years.

    Peter will also be remembered for his lasting role in the ITV soap opera as cheeky chappy Len Reynolds who first appeared in the dales in 2001 before his emotional exit in 2007.

    But loyal fans will also know the legendary actor for his comedy role in a series of TV ads for builder's merchants Jewson back in the 1980s, where he played a confused customer listening to a salesman reel off a list of exotic timbers on offer.
