Good Morning Britain viewers were shocked when presenter Richard Madeley dissed the nation’s hero Sir David Attenborough.
The host, 62, was accused by fans of insulting the beloved Our Planet broadcaster during a debate with Dr Gail Bradbrook about the climate change campaigns in London.
The co-founder of the Extinction Rebellion protest was on the show to discuss climate change and was concerned for young people’s futures.
‘I have two boys, 10 and 13, and they won’t have enough food to eat in a few years’ time,’ she urged.
‘Sir David Attenborough said the collapse of this civilisation could happen soon.’
However, Richard seemed to dismiss Dr Bradbrook and said: ‘He’s not a saint you know. He’s just a broadcaster.’
The comment outraged some viewers as the veteran wildlife narrator is considered a national treasure.
Legions of fans have slammed Richard on Twitter for his comments.
One wrote: ‘Richard Madeley seems to think he knows more about #ClimateBreakdown than Sir David Attenborough, so perhaps we should let RM present an environmental programme to show us all there’s nothing to worry about? Or, better still, perhaps he should actually research the topic.’
While another added: ‘Can not believe Richard Madeley has just said Sir David Attenborough was just a presenter.’
Another GMB viewer called on Richard to make a ‘public apology’.
Metro.co.uk last week published a love letter to ‘hero’ Sir David.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV while you can catch Sir David Attenborough’s Our Planet on Netflix now.
