Power Book II theories: Ghost’s resurrection ‘sealed’ as fans expose Instagram hint

Power Book II: Ghost episode seven teaser released by STARZ

Showrunner Courtney Kemp’s hit crime series Power is still going strong despite the death of James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick in this year’s thrilling final season. As the first of four spin-offs continue on Starz, a strange clue on Instagram has convinced some viewers that the murdered drug lord is still out there.

An intriguing trend on Power’s official Instagram page has tipped fans off to a huge potential twist in one of the show’s four follow-up series.

Following the death of James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick (played by Omari Hardwick), the series was revived with Book II: Ghost back in October, with three more spin-offs in the works.

The series is currently following Ghost’s son and killer, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) as he navigates college life.

More spin-offs focusing on Kanan Stark (Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson) and Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) are also on the way, securing the series’ future for years to come.

Although it’s assumed the series’ former lead won’t be seen in the series again after Tariq shot him point blank, some viewers are determined to prove Ghost will eventually make a comeback.

One fan revived the theory on Reddit when they noticed Book II’s official Instagram page paid tribute to the latest death in the series, Detective Ramirez (Shalim Ortiz).

Along with a puzzled emoji, they posted: “So detective Ramirez is officially dead..but yet still no r.i.p for Ghost?”

Power has a huge social media presence, even when the show is off air, and many fans find it highly suspicious that Ghost hasn’t been given his own tribute on Instagram.

While the show’s social media activity is by no means the official word on what’s happening in the series, this fan maintained the elusive drug dealer would have been given a post by now if he were truly dead.

The theory prompted even more debate among the fanbase, with several viewers pointing to comments made by Courtney Kemp herself which seemed to debunk the speculation.

Another replied: “Courtney debunked it already. She said if he ever came back it would be on her own terms, and she said (sarcastically) ‘that’s cute’ when people told her to bring him back via Twitter live.”

This viewer also referred to Ghost’s poignant funeral sealing the deal on his death, and the fact viewers have seen his headstone multiple times throughout the series.

However, one commenter speculated: “I feel everyone with the ‘Ghost is dead’ thing but something does feel fishy about his death. He is a ‘ghost’ right?”

Some fans have suggested Ghost could turn up in a flashback or even a dream sequence, suggesting Tariq is being haunted by the memory of his appropriately named father.

Long-running showrunner Courtney Kemp has essentially dismissed the rumours, although she hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of Ghost’s eventual resurrection.

During a Q&A on Instagram, she said: “I can’t speak to if it will always be that way. Certainly it was written and intended for it to be that way that Ghost is dead.”

Kemp then teased: “But it’s the world of Power; things can change.

“Certainly, if Ghost thought Tariq was coming to shoot him he definitely wouldn’t have played it out like that.”

Fans are currently on the look-out for the return of Tommy Egan ahead of his own spin-off series so, even if Power does shock fans with Ghost’s return, it won’t become a reality for at least a couple of years.

Power Book II: Ghost season 1 concludes Sunday, January 3 on Starz and Starzplay.
