Patsy Kensit was 'gutted' when EastEnders rejected her

Patsy Kensit has revealed that she auditioned for EastEnders previously but didn’t get the part.

The actress, who plays Emma Harding, branded herself a ‘super fan’ of the BBC One soap, explaining that she’s always wanted to be on the show – and even auditioned for a part years before landing her role.

‘This was a job that I’ve always wanted, to be on the show,’ the former Emmerdale star said on The One Show. ‘I auditioned years ago for a part and didn’t get the role.

‘I was gutted.’

Good things come to those who wait, however, and Patsy finally got the part she was looking for in the form of Emma Harding, estranged mum to mainstay Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold).

‘And then, suddenly, [EastEnders] came back to me and I got offered Emma,’ she said, gleefully.

‘I got to work with the wonderful Danielle Harold who plays Lola and she’s most brilliant and we had the best time together… And I’m a super fan!’

The role Patsy previously auditioned for is rumoured to be that of Chrissie Watts, which went to Tracy-Ann Oberman, though this is just speculation and nothing has ever been confirmed.

Emma, meanwhile, rocked up in Walford earlier this year after Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) tracked her down and invited her to Lola’s wedding.

Despite wanting to get to know her little girl, who is terminally ill, Emma refused to attend, but was ultimately unable to stay away, showing up to the salon to book appointments under the guise of Nicole.

Lola was none-the-wiser at first, until the truth came out, with Emma explaining that her reason for leaving all those years ago was because her ex – Lola’s dad – was abusive.

After hearing her mum’s harrowing story, Lola resolved to get to know Emma, with the two subsequently embracing, but things have become rather complicated between the two, with Emma going behind her daughter’s back on multiple occasions, and even accused Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) of cheating on his beloved Lola.

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
