Nothing to see, just a masked Phil Mitchell going cycling

Phil Mitchell, on a bike, wearing both a coronavirus mask and gloves is the image we never knew we needed to see… until now.

The EastEnders star was pictured riding around London, Thursday morning, on what we can only presume was his hour of daily exercise, and it’s iconic.

With his eyes poking out from underneath his flat cap, the 61-year-old looked pandemic ready as he was completely covered up from head to toe despite the soaring temperatures.

Steve McFadden, who plays the famous character, had his man bag to hand seeing it firmly attached to the front of his ride.

He couldn’t have possibly looked any more prepared for the coronavirus crisis if he’d tried – all he needs now is a helmet.

His sighting comes after EastEnders bosses addressed rumours that the soap would return to filming – despite the current lockdown.

Boris Johnson has advised that Brits stay indoors as much as possible to help stall the spread of Covid-19.

However, this has brought the production of the soap to a halt, with weekly transmissions being reduced from four to two in order to keep it on screens for as long as possible.

A spokesperson recently told Metro.co.uk: ‘No dates have been set for filming to resume and we will not return until it is safe to do so.

‘We will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the World Health Organisation and Public Health England.’

And an insider backed this up by adding: ‘Obviously fans and everyone who works on the show want it to be back in an ideal world as soon as possible – but we would never compromise staff safety for that, so there is really no way of knowing at this stage when the show will be back in production.

‘Of course, bosses are talking on a daily basis but no dates can possibly be confirmed in this climate so it would be purely speculative to try and estimate.’

As it stands, more than 30,000 people have died from Covid-19 while there are over 200,000 coronavirus cases confirmed in the UK alone.

These figures make the island the worst hit country in Europe, with a death toll that surpasses Italy’s.

Boris Johnson has said he might consider easing the lockdown on Sunday night – where he will publish a strategy on how the government plan on lifting the current measures.
