Annie Jones, who portrays Jane Harris in Neighbours, and her co-star Stefan Dennis, who is known for playing cold-hearted businessman Paul Robinson, have confirmed they will be starring in the soap’s revival. While the Australian actors revealed they are “thrilled” to be returning to Erinsborough, they admitted the announcement of the show’s reboot was “confusing and shocking” at first.

When asked how he felt about the residents of Ramsay Street reuniting once again, Stefan admitted to and other publications: “It was confusing and shocking when we first found out it was coming back.”

He explained he and his colleagues had to “pick their jaws off the floor” following the major announcement.

“Being honest, I did have to think about it for a while, well when I saw a while I mean hours not days,” he quipped.

“It was just because it had been nearly eight months since the end of the show.

“We moved on, you’ve got to remember we are actors. We move on and we look for other work.

“Because of the confusion and the shock of the immediate announcement I kind of went, ‘Do I want to go back or do I want to keep pursuing other work and go into semi-retirement so to speak?’

“It didn’t take long to realise it was a pretty darn good gig and I’d be a nut bag to say no to it.”

Annie added: “For me, it was a no-brainer as I love playing Jane and I love being on the show and having the opportunity to grow as an actor with every storyline.”

The 56-year-old actress beamed before saying she was “thrilled” and “really happy” to be returning to the set.

The serial drama is set to return to screens this Autumn, but details about any storylines have been kept tightly under wraps.

Annie added: “We don’t start back for another couple of months and we haven’t been given any scripts yet, although our executive producer did share this cover of the first script which was a big tease we are really excited and can’t wait to read it and see what’s in store.”

Stefan hinted new faces could be heading to the street as part of the reboot.

“There might be some new characters but that is all I can say,” the 64-year-old added. “I am saying it’s a rumour.

“It’s a soap and soaps are forever changing because actors leave and do other things or the characters don’t work – let’s be honest, that sometimes happens.

“That’s not the fault of the actor, it’s just sometimes characters don’t work.

“At the risk of sounding terribly secretive, we don’t know anything. I would be surprised if there wasn’t a new face on the show.”

Neighbours ended its 37-year run last July after it failed to find a new broadcasting partner when Channel 5 pulled funding for the beloved soap.

The channel said it wanted to focus on “producing original content” but 71,000 Neighbours fans signed a petition in a bid to keep the show running.

Luckily, Amazon Freevee later made the decision to resuscitate the Aussie soap and production is rumoured to commence in the coming weeks.

Neighbours is coming to Amazon Freevee at a date yet to be confirmed later this year.
