Stefan Dennis has confirmed he will be starring in the Neighbours’ revival alongside stars such as Annie Jones, who portrays Jane Harris in the soap. The actors have broken their silence about returning to Erinsborough, with Stefan admitting to Express.co.uk he’
Neighbours ended its 37-year run last July much to the disappointment of its legion of fans.
The soap ended after it failed to find a new broadcasting partner when Channel 5 pulled funding for the serial drama.
More than 71,000 Neighbours fans signed a petition in a bid to keep the show running and their calls were listened to.
Amazon Freevee made the decision to resurrect the Australian soap and production is set to commence in the coming weeks.
Speaking to Express.co.uk about the revival, Stefan explained he and his colleagues had to “pick their jaws off the floor” following the major announcement.
“Being honest, I did have to think about it for a while, well when I say a while I mean hours not days,” he laughed.
“It was just because it had been nearly eight months since the end of the show.
“We moved on, you’ve got to remember we are actors. We move on and we look for other work.
“Because of the confusion and the shock of the immediate announcement I kind of went, ‘Do I want to go back or do I want to keep pursuing other work and go into semi-retirement so to speak?’
“It didn’t take long to realise it was a pretty darn good gig and I’d be a nut bag to say no to it.”
Annie added: “For me, it was a no-brainer as I love playing Jane and I love being on the show and having the opportunity to grow as an actor with every storyline.”
Alan Fletcher, who plays fan favourite Dr Karl Kennedy on the Aussie soap, is also grabbing the opportunity by the horns.

He said: “I was very excited because we realised we have a show we all love dearly with a huge popularity but we can sit back and go, ‘How can we make it better?’
“‘What can we do to make the fans love it even more?’ Things like diversity and all the changes can be made there.
“What characters from the past might be brought back or what new characters might we have?”
“The world is our oyster, you just don’t get a chance of doing this,” the 66-year-old added. “We have been given a chance for a redo, it’s extraordinary.”
Neighbours is returning the second half of 2023 on Amazon Freevee, it is understood.
The news of the revival came during the cast’s farewell tour which was held across the UK in March.
The tour featured several stars who have confirmed they will be part of the drama’s reboot.
Neighbours is coming to Amazon Freevee at a date yet to be confirmed later this year.
