CBS’s procedural drama hit the screens with its 19th instalment in September and the action-packed series is well underway. NCIS actor Brian Dietzen who played Jimmy Palmer recently hit a major career milestone behind the scenes of the show.
The actor took to Instagram to share the ground-breaking news with his followers, Brian shared a selfie of himself holding up a script with his name on it.
In the caption, he wrote: “You guys, I got to write a script of @ncis_cbs with my pal @mostxsw and it’s been a great adventure so far.
“We jumped into filming this bad boy after the Thanksgiving weekend, and I couldn’t be more excited – it’s my first time writing for the show, and it’s been a great experience.
Brian explained: “I’ll keep you guys updated along the way, so pumped to share this with you all. Giving many thanks this week!”
This is a huge milestone for Brian, who has portrayed Doctor and Chief Medical Examiner, Dr James Palmer since season one.
Usually, for actors the natural trajectory away from screens is to become a director, however, Brian decided to go against the mould and become a writer on NCIS.
His fans filled the comment section with messages of congratulations and support after he made the announcement.
People including Originalginged84, who commenced: ”Well you’re a great guy and have been awesome on the show, well deserved!!! Ducky will be proud.”

While Irismycase wrote: “Congratulations! That’s pretty cool!”
Brian’s milestone was also celebrated by other actors including Diona Reasonover who is currently playing Kasie Hines on NCIS: “It’s a great script friend.”
The official NCIS page also commented: “We can’t wait to see it.”
Although Jimmy Palmer was originally introduced as Medical Examiner to Dr Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard (David McCallum) in 2004, he was only temporary covering for his assistant.
However, a second encounter with terrorist Ari Haswari led the assistant to reign, which made room for Jimmy to work alongside Ducky permanently.
After assisting him on countless autopsies for the NCIS Major Case Response Team, Ducky stepped down in 2019.
Jimmy succeeded the role and was NCIS’ newest Medical Examiner which also secured his position as a fan-favourite.
Throughout the series, his character has experienced a number of unexpected challenges which included the death of his wife Breena (Michelle Pierce) in the pandemic.
As a newly-widowed father, he was also being held hostage with Kasie Hines (Diona Reasonover).
Many fans have questioned whether Jimmy will find happiness again in NCIS or if he will have to leave for a fresh start.
NCIS season 19 continues every Monday on CBS.
