Coronation Street has confirmed that Liz McDonald has left the soap, as it was referenced by her son Steve (Simon Gregson) that his mum has upped and moved to Spain, and he could really do with her support right now.
Beverley Callard recently confirmed that she was leaving the show and was expected to film a dramatic exit storyline that would see her make a damaging decision.
However, due to the pandemic forcing the show to shut down, Bev was unable to film the scenes that would see Liz leave the show and now she is unavailable to return as the show is back up and running again.
A source told Metro.co.uk that Bev is indeed now out of contract from the show – so fans are unlikely to expect to see her reappear from this point forward.
This means that her element of the Oliver storyline is considered scrapped due to the unavoidable situation – and we have to accept that Steve and Liz parted off screen.

MD of Continuing Drama and Head of ITV in the North John Whiston said last year: ‘With the character of Liz, Beverley Callard has gifted to Coronation Street 30 years of brilliant drama, comedy and everything in between.
‘Whether it’s sharing a wicked joke with Eileen, raising an arch eyebrow behind the bar of the Rovers or giving some feckless man the full force of her tongue, Liz is a true Coronation Street icon.
‘And while we wish Bev well when she leaves to take on new challenges mid next year hopefully Weatherfield hasn’t seen the last of Liz!’
Bev admitted that she had many sleepless nights over her decision to quit after 30 years in the role, although she has taken significant breaks before.
For now though, that’s that for Liz!
