The “Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood” stars first interrupt his monologue over and over again, try to steal his audience and finally give him the biggest insult of them all!
Jimmy Kimmel may have Emmy nominations under his belt, but it’s not enough to get any respect from the A-List of Hollywood movie stars, as evidenced by how awfully he was treated by Leonardo Di Caprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie ahead of their new film premiere, "Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood."
The new Quentin Tarantino film was enjoying its premiere across the street from Kimmel’s studio, and said studio must have been situated between wherever it is the stars were able to find parking in Los Angeles and the premiere. One by one, as Kimmel tried to deliver a high-quality monologue to his excited audience, the stars of the film made their way across his stage.
Robbie was first, and she really tried to fly through. When he finally stopped her to ask what was going on, she said, "I’m just heading to the premiere, so cutting through." And like that, she was gone.
Within minutes, Brad Pitt was hot on her heels. When Jimmy tried to put his foot down this time and reassert some control over his own show — the audience absolutely lost it at the sight of the debonair Pitt — well that didn’t go too well.
"I just wanna say, this is not some kind of an alleyway," he told Pitt.
"This is the alleyway?" Pitt asked, clearly messing with him.
"No, I just said this is not some kind of alleyway," Kimmel insisted.
"Great. Thanks, Jimmy."
Finally, Kimmel got to enjoy Di Caprio on his show for the first time, but of course it was just going to be a walk-through, right? Not so fast, as Di Caprio stopped to say that he was actually there to invite Kimmel’s audience to the premiere.
At least Tarantino had the decency to sit down for his entire interview before the big premiere, even showing up in a tuxedo for the experience. But as time was winding down for that chat, Robbie suddenly showed up again.
Inexplicably, she said she was there to invite the audience to the premiere. "I would say that’s very sweet, but Leo already invited them to see it when he was coming through," Kimmel said. "And we would love to come by the way."
"Oh sorry," Robbie said with a pained expression. "We just have room for the audience. We’re so tight on tickets."
"But I’m just one person," Kimmel said.
"Yeah, but you get it. You understand, Robbie replied. "Oh Guillermo, do you wanna come to the movie?"
The whole thing was utterly adorable, and we can only hope they were able to squeeze Kimmel in somewhere at the premiere. Maybe he and Guillermo simply shared a seat. Either way, it was a fun way to play with the fact that many of Hollywood’s biggest premieres do happen right across the street from Kimmel’s theater on Hollywood Blvd.
He’s so close to the action, and yet as we learned tonight, still so far away.
"Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood" premieres nationwide (so even Kimmel can see it) on Friday, July 26.
