JESSICA Simpson confronted and forgave the woman who sexually abused her for six years when she was a child.
The singer, 40, said she "felt bad" for the family friend, who was herself being abused by an "older guy".
Jessica opened up about the abuse in her memoir Open Book, explaining that it started when she was six and that she didn't tell her parents until six years later.
The mom-of-three discussed the ordeal while appearing on Katherine Schwarzenegger's The Gift of Forgiveness podcast, on Wednesday.
Jessica explained that she confronted her abuser eight years ago.
She told the "monster": "I just want you to know that I forgive you and I don’t really care to be around you that much ever again, but I do want you to know that I know what happened between us and I’m not gonna live in denial about it."
Jessica said her abuser was facing her own abuse from an older man.
She recalled: "I went to her and I just said, 'I know you know what was going on and I know that you were being abused,’ because she was being abused by an older guy."
She said of the older guy: "He was always there at the house as well, so he never touched me, but he would abuse her and she would come to me and do the stuff to me and so, like in so many ways I felt bad for her and I was allowing the abuse to happen.
"I told her in the moment, 'I know that you have a lot to deal with.'"
Jessica advised her abuser to see a therapist and try to "heal" from the abuse she suffered.
She said: "I told her that she should probably talk to someone and find a way to understand those moments and to forgive those moments and to heal from those moments."
The musician – who has three young children – explained in her memoir that the sexual abuse happened during sleepovers at a family friend's house by a girl who was one year older than her.
Jessica said they had the sleepovers at least three times a year.
She wrote: “It would start with tickling my back and then go into things that were extremely uncomfortable.”
She subjected herself to the abuse to protect her sister Ashlee, who was also in the bed.
“The second time she abused me, it was during a Spring visit and Ashlee was also in the bed,” the Dukes of Hazzard actress wrote in her tell-all.
“I lay between them, fiercely protecting my sister from this monster. I didn't want her to feel as disgusting as I felt."
“For six years, I was abused by this girl during our family's visits, which happened three times a year. Eventually it wasn't just at nighttime," Jessica said.
“She would get me to go into a closet with her, or just find a way to linger until we were alone. It got to the point that she would sneak into the bathroom to watch me shower.
“She continued to try to sleep next to my little sister and I would just scooch Ashlee over and get between them whenever she did.
“I never let her near Ashlee, but I also never screamed or told her to stop. I was confused, wondering if it was something that I wanted to keep going,” the mom-of-three candidly revealed.
She eventually told her parents, Tina and Joe Simpson, one day in the car and they never went to the family friend's house again.
