Wednesday continues to hold the top spot on Netflix with Jenna Ortega receiving high praise for her portrayal. In the series, she is sent to Nevermore Academy by her parents Morticia (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Luis Guzmán). Express.co.uk has all you need to know about the star’s real-life parents.

Who are Jenna Ortega’s parents?

Wednesday has taken the world by storm with 20-year-old Jenna bringing a fresh twist to the teenage character.

Fans are keen to find out more about the star, who started her career as a child actress.

She was previously known for her roles in Jane the Virgin and the Netflix series, You.

Jenna was born in Coachella Valley, California, and is one of six children.

Her mother, Natalie, is a nurse and her father, Edward, is a Mexican-American businessman.

Both of her parents supported her in joining the world of showbiz and entertainment from a young age.

Natalie, who is Puerto Rican, is on Instagram and she regularly posts about Jenna’s career highlights.

Sharing a photo of Jenna at the Wednesday premiere, she said: “Thanks to everyone who’s watched Wednesday on @netflix.

“As a mom always out to protect her babies, I wasn’t sure how the audience would receive this more modern take on such a beloved character.

“Christina is iconic, and so brilliant in her portrayal. As you can imagine it’s a lot of pressure.

“I hope this gives my girl the confidence that she can do all hard things. Thank you all for being so kind.”

In November 2020 Jenna won a Rising Star award and her mother showered her with praise.

She said: “I made her! Congratulations on your rising star award tonight. So proud of you my Beauty. The world is yours.”

According to Celeb Suburb, Jenna is 75 percent Mexican and 25 percent Puerto Rican.

Her great-grandmother on her mother’s side chose to relocate from Mexico to the US.

Jenna’s grandfather on her mother’s side was originally born and raised in Puerto Rico before moving to New York City.

The actress spoke to PopSugar about growing up learning multiple languages.

She said: “Since my father does not speak Spanish, trying to teach my siblings and me the language when we were little, was a struggle.

“My mom is bilingual because her grandmother babysat her often and taught her Spanish.

“The plan was for her to speak it to us and for my father to speak English so that we could learn both languages.”

One of the reasons she took on the Wednesday role was that it embraced her Latina culture and provided a rare opportunity.

She explained: “As someone who struggled to see themselves represented in film and TV growing up, anytime I can take the chance to do a character like this and have her represent my community like Raúl Juliá in the ‘90s, that’s really empowering.”

Wednesday is on Netflix now.
