Injured John Barrowman was so determined to return to the jungle he told producers at the hospital: “I am not a quitter, I want to walk across that bridge and I want the goddam fireworks”.
Barrowman has returned to the I’m A Celebrity camp less than 24 hours after an ankle injury threatened to ruin his chances of being crowned King of the jungle.
The 51-year-old was rushed to hospital after he slipped down a path when walking to clean a pot and immediately screamed out in pain.
The former Doctor Who star was left in agony on Sunday night and was helped into the medical hut by DIY SOS host Nick Knowles and Hollyoaks star Malique Thompson-Dwyer.
He spent overnight in a hospital but X-rays showed there was no break and it was just a severe sprain.
It’s understood that after a full medical assessment he then returned to camp on Monday morning and tonight he was seen on screen wearing his orthopedic boot.
An ITV source who watched unaired footage told the Mirror that John was really happy to be back in camp.
He said that although John’s ankle was sore and throbbing a bit coming back in was “a no brainer” but it had to be agreed with the show to ensure it was safe for him to return.
In the unused footage the source told how John said: "I don’t want this to stop me coming back in and being involved and part of camp, that was my main worry. I am not a quitter and want to see this through.
"Wholeheartedly I want to walk across that goddamn bridge and I want the goddam fireworks, that’s what I want. I just wanted to get back and see everyone."
The source added: "John didn’t shower or have dinner during the night away from camp and drank just water as he insisted he didn’t want any special treatment.
"He was in lockdown with no access to TV, phones, technology or food. He is wearing an orthopedic boot and carrying a jungle staff."
John came staggering back into camp wearing an orthopaedic boot.
He got a shock when his fellow campmates revealed that Malique has been kicked out of the jungle.
Once back in camp, John said: "I’m glad to be back and I’m feeling good. I want to see this through, if I’m voted to go home tomorrow or the next day I’m cool with that but I made the decision to come back because I didn’t want to miss it."
I’m A Celebrity airs tonight on ITV at 9pm
