Holby City fans were devastated as show legend Ric Griffin bowed out of the hospital after nearly two decades on the show.
Ric, played by Hugh Quashie, said goodbye to the hospital after finally waking up from his coma.
He was left recovering after going through brain surgery before the show's break, and wakes up to find the hospital dealing with the pandemic.
Vic, who is vulnerable to coronavirus due to his age and health, found himself struggling as he started to fall ill himself.
As he and Max fought to save the life of a baby, he was seen collapsing into a heap on the floor.
Speaking about his exit, Hugh said: "I came very close to quitting acting entirely before being invited to join Holby City. I had felt unfulfilled and that I never quite fitted in. Holby City changed all that.
"The work became absorbing, colleagues became friends. I wouldn't have stayed so long if it hadn't been a great place to work, and leaving will be like leaving home – a place where there is warmth and a welcome, a place to which you can always return…"
