Gogglebox star Julie Malone issued an emotional tribute to her late cast members at the National Television Awards as she remembered "everyone's favourite grandma June".

The hit Channel 4 comedy show, where regular people are filmed in their own homes while watching the highest-rated shows on British television, won the gong for best factual TV show.

Popular cast members and siblings Pete and Sophie Sandiford first issued a gushing thanking their co-stars and production crew for their hard work.

The Manchester native followed with an emotional tribute to a string of stars that have recently passed away, gushing: "On a sadder note, we want to dedicate this award to all the people we have lost over the past 18 months, two years, Andy, Pete, Mary and everyone's favourite grandma June."

The dedication was met with rapturous applause from the crowd as fans took to social media to express their support for the lovely dedication, with one writing: "Gogglebox is one of the best shows on telly. Thoroughly deserving win. Lovely dedication from Julie to those we’ve lost recently from the show."

Another added: "Julie well said, I cried when you dedicated the award to Pete, Mary, Andy and the amazing June, they will be missed."

While a third wrote: "Oh Julie even brought up June, I'm absolutely done."

The Malone family have been a firm fixture on Gogglebox since they joined the show back in 2014 – although this series they are appearing without fan favourite Tom Jr.

Coronation Street won the Serial Drama gong after coming short to fellow ITV show Emmerdale last year.

Mollie Gallagher was also given Serial Drama Performance for her gripping portrayal of Nina Lucas in the recent hate crime storyline, as well as Jude Riordan becoming the youngest-ever winner for playing Sam Blakeman.

Elsewhere, Ant and Dec won the Best Presenter gong for a historic 20th time — and the duo took home the Sir Bruce Forsyth Award as part of the cast of I'm a Celebrity.
