Firefly Lane trailer released by Netflix

Firefly Lane is a story about friendship and whether it is always unconditional. The series has just made its debut on Netflix and it is based on the book of the same name by Kristin Hannah. Fans are keen to know whether there will be another series following a major cliffhanger.

WARNING: This story contains spoilers for Firefly Lane

Will there be another series of Firefly Lane?

All 10 episodes of Firefly Lane arrived on the streaming platform at the same time on February 3.

The story is focused on best friends Tully Hart (played Katherine Heigl) and Kate Mularkey (Sarah Chalke).

The pair have been friends since they were 14 but the end of the first season suggested this was no longer the case.

Netflix has not officially given season two the green light, but as the series did not end in the same place as the book, there is plenty of scope for another season.

As the first series has only just arrived at the time of writing, it is too early to say whether season two will go ahead.

When will Firefly Lane season 2 be released?

News of the series first came to light in February 2019 when Netflix was given a first season order of 10 episodes.

With this in mind, the creators may not have planned for a second season, so production on future episodes is yet to take place.

With the coronavirus pandemic impacting TV production, there is no knowing how long it will take to pull the new season together.

Fans can hope for an early 2022 release date, but during these unpredictable times, nothing is set in stone.

They are already calling for a second season, with one viewer saying on Twitter: “Spent the day laughing and crying at Firefly Lane. Give us season 2 already.”

Who will be in the cast of Firefly Lane season 2?

Heigl and Chalke will undoubtedly reprise their roles as the main characters as fans are yet to find out what happened to end their friendship.

There is uncertainty around whether Ben Lawson will return as Johnny Ryan following the explosion cliffhanger in Iraq.

Fans were left wondering whether he had been killed or severely injured following the tragic incident.

Yael Yurman is likely to reprise her role as Marah, Kate’s teenage daughter, as she plays a major role in the book.

Actress Heigl is on Instagram and she was excited to introduce fans to the series, saying: “It’s finally here for your viewing pleasure!

“Firefly Lane has dropped on @netflix and I hope you all love it as much as I do! Here’s to embracing a good Netflix and chill night with your bestie!”

What will happen in Firefly Lane season 2?

Fans who have read the books will know there are some harrowing storylines yet to come.

The end of the first season showed a flash-forward in time to when Kate and Tully officially ended their friendship.

The second season will explain what broke the loyal pact but there is no knowing whether it will deviate from the book.

In the novel, Kate ended up slating Tully on a live show which destroyed their 30-year relationship.

Those who have read the books will know Kate also suffers a tragic fate after she is diagnosed with breast cancer.

In her final moments, she attempts to make amends with Tully and she told her old friend not to regret their history.

Tully is left severely impacted by Kate’s death and the end of the second season may touch on how she copes with the loss.

Fans best prepare themselves for an emotional rollercoaster if season two gets the go-ahead.

One fan said on Twitter: “How can they end Firefly Lane like that? I need season 2 rn [sic].”

Another said: “The ending of Firefly Lane nearly broke me. I mean the whole series was an emotional rollercoaster but they didn’t have to rip out my heart entirely.

“They better do a season 2 because the plot twist at the end was unbearable.”

Firefly Lane is streaming on Netflix.
