Emmerdale’s Rhona star jokes she ‘didn’t want Dingle last name’ due to real-life husband link

Emmerdale star Zoe Henry has revealed that she didn’t want her character Rhona Goskirk to take the last name Dingle as she did not want to share the same surname as her real-life husband’s character.

The actress is married to Cain Dingle actor Jeff Hordley away from the soap, and the couple share two children.

On-screen, her character Rhona is preparing to marry Marlon Dingle in emotional scenes set to air on the soap next week.

Speaking to OK! and other reporters at an Emmerdale press event, Zoe opened up on the upcoming on-screen nuptials, sharing the personal reason why she didn’t want Rhona to take on the Dingle surname.

"I said, 'Don't want to be a Dingle’,” she told us.

"I don't want to be the same surname in the show as my real husband is. Anyway, my wish has come true as she doesn't become a Dingle."

Reflecting on Rhona's previous marriages to Paddy Kirk and Pierce Harris, Zoe said that not changing the character's name to Dingle was also fitting for Rhona. She added: "I thought long and hard about this, because she's never changed her name.

"She's always been a Goskirk. [Her son] Leo is a Goskirk. She has stayed the same and her mum is here now.

"I like the fact that she has retained her name. She's never changed her name to Kirk or Harris."

Emmerdale fans have already been given a preview of the upcoming wedding, which will see Marlon walking down the aisle to marry Rhona after suffering from a stroke.

Earlier this year, Marlon had a life-threatening stroke in heartbreaking episodes with the ITV soap working closely with the charity, Stroke Association, to give a "realistic and authentic depiction" of his recovery journey.

Marlon has continued to make huge progress in his recovery with help from physiotherapist Kit and in the upcoming scenes, he emotionally fulfils his wish of walking down the aisle as a surprise for partner Rhona.

Emotional spoiler photos show the moment that Marlon walks down the aisle to greet Rhona as their guests are left delighted over the milestone.

However, prior to the emotional moment, at his stag do the night before, Marlon tries to get to his feet but his legs suddenly buckle and falls to the ground.

Things take a devastating turn at the hospital when the doctor informs Marlon that he’ll have to stay overnight, due to the results indicating an extremely high blood pressure.

The next day, it's the morning of the wedding and an excited Rhona is still in the dark over the fact her husband-to-be is in hospital.

Just when it looks like Marlon is a no-show and Rhona senses something is wrong, Paddy whizzes a determined Marlon in his pimped up wedding wheelchair through the church as he makes the ceremony just in time.
