Emmerdale actress Charley Webb is reportedly 'closing door on soap' amid her husband Matthew Wolfenden's alleged race row which he has categorically denied.
The 33 year old actress, who joined the ITV soap in 2002 as Debbie Dingle, is reportedly stepping away from the Yorkshire Dales drama 'for good' after 19 years.
Charley, who shares children Buster,11, Bowie, five and two year old Ace with Matthew, 41, who plays David Metcalfe, was reportedly 'fuelled' by her husband's on-set row in her decision to quit the soap.
"Charley is closing the door on Emmerdale for good and won’t be going back," a source told The Sun.
They continued: "The past few months have given her time to think about the future and it is one that doesn’t involve Emmerdale.
The insider added: "Matthew being caught up in the row on set fuelled her decision to step away."
An Emmerdale spokeswoman told The Sun: "There are no current plans for Debbie Dingle to return."
OK! has contacted representatives of Charley Webb, Matthew Wolfenden and Isabel Hodgins.
Meanwhile in an instalment which aired last week, Debbie’s aunt Chas Dingle, played by Lucy Pargeter, told husband Paddy, played by Dominic Brunt: “Debbie’s not coming home for Christmas.”
She then reminded viewers that Debbie was now living in Scotland and wouldn’t be on our screens any time soon, saying: “We could go to her? I know Bear’s keen on visiting Scotland?”
Taking to Twitter, many Emmerdale fans shared their disappointment and said they’d like to see Debbie back in the village causing trouble.
One wrote: “I wish Debbie would make a comeback and stay for more than a month.”
Another added: “Gutted Debbie’s not coming home for Christmas.”
Previously speaking about whether Charley would be back on the ITV soap, Matthew suggested it might be a while off – especially with the pandemic ongoing.
He explained: “To be honest filming there at the moment with Covid regulations is tough.”
“Everyone's rallied round and made it what it is. But yeah. I think for her to go back now when all this is still happening is not what she wants to do.”
He then added: "I think she'll wait until all the restrictions have dropped."
In October Matthew was embroiled in a race row after it was alleged that a mixed-race actress was upset by a comment on set.
Matthew and his co-star Isabel Hodgins, who plays Victoria Sugden, 27, were also faced with allegations that the female cast member's accent was mimicked. However they categorically denied all the allegations and claimed that there was a misunderstanding.
A representative for Matthew and Isabel, 27, previously told OK! Online: "While we would never comment on individual cases, Emmerdale has robust policies in place to deal with any allegations brought to our attention and take the appropriate steps."
Charley left the soap in 2019 to go on maternity leave where she welcomed her third son, Ace, then surprised soap fans by making a brief appearance last Christmas when she arrived in the village to reveal she’d been sleeping with engaged Al Chapman (Michael Wildman).
