While Ethan Anderson (Emile John) is currently struggling with the ethical dilemmas involved in being a lawyer for a violent racist thug on Emmerdale, at least one area of his life appears to be going smoothly – his relationship with Marcus Dean (Darcy Grey).
The pair met when Marcus’s dying father Pierce Harris asked Rhona (Zoe Henry) to track his son down.
There was an instant attraction between Marcus and Ethan when they met and the relationship seems to be going from strength to strength. Marcus wasn’t even put off by Ethan’s dad Charles (Kevin Mathurin)’s teasing.
‘Charles is unpredictable, but it’s all coming from a good place,’ Emile John told us. ‘I think Charles really likes Marcus, and obviously Ethan and Marcus get on really well.’
Emile says that Marcus is a breath of fresh air for Ethan: ‘Ethan up till now has had the worst luck when it comes to guys, so it’s lovely to see Ethan really start to build a true connection with someone and it’s on an equal level. It’s nice to see. There’s genuine affection there and they do really care for one another.’
Emile is being realistic about his character’s chance of long-term happiness, though. ‘At the moment they’re really good and it would be good if they had a long future together,’ he says, ‘But it is a soap, so we’ll see what happens. I’m kind of anticipating it going downhill at some point soon!’
