EastEnders’ Jessie Wallace’s co-star blames her arrest on ‘tiring nature’ of job

EastEnders star Jessie Wallace has been defended by her co-star Scott Maslen following her arrest.

The 50-year-old actress, who plays Kat Slater in the BBC One soap, was pictured getting arrested in Bury St Edmunds last month after allegedly telling a police office to "f**k off you fat c**t".

She detained on suspicion of assaulting a police officer as well as drunk and disorderly conduct, but released without charge by Suffolk Police after receiving a conditional caution.

Jack Branning actor Scott, 51, has since revealed Jessie has "earned" from the incident and put it down to "tiring nature" of her job.

Speaking to The Sun, the soap star said: "It’s hard in this job. You get caught out sometimes, it’s life..

"She’s a character, she works very hard, it’s long days, so when she goes out occasionally, maybe she’s tired.

"We’re under the spotlight, that’s the reality, so when you do make a mistake, you have to be careful She’s in a good place, we move on, she’s learned and we go forward."

It comes after reports that the return of Shane Richie as Alfie Moon has saved Jessie from being axed.

The EastEnders icon has been confirmed to return to the BBC soap three years after Alfie fled Albert Square, having gotten on the wrong side of Phil Mitchell.

ATV insider has since claimed Shane's return to the soap has saved Jessie from being axed as it confirms her future on the soap.

They told The Sun: "Albert Square devotees will be thrilled that Alfie Moon is returning — he’s one of the most-loved characters in the soap’s history.

“It also secures the future of Jessie as Kat, because together they deliver one of EastEnders most captivating love stories.

“Having them on the cast is seen as a dynamite combination that might get more diehard fans tuning in again.

The last time fans saw Alfie, he had been revealed as the father of Kat's cousin Hayley Slater's baby after a brief affair.

Alfie desperately tried to win Kat back, but he ended up having to leave Walford altogether as he stole money from Walford hardman Phil.
