EastEnders Jamie Borthwick admits he ‘got closer’ with Lola star Danielle Harold

EastEnders favourite Jamie Borthwick has opened up on his close bond with co-star Danielle Harold after filming harrowing final scenes together.

His character Jay Brown on the BBC One soap is set to be left devastated next week as his terminally-ill wife Lola passes away surrounded by her loved ones.

The doting mum, who was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour last year, recently decided to spend her final days in the comfort of her own home.

In next Wednesday’s episode (May 31), Lola’s loved ones will gather individually to say their emotional goodbyes before she passes away.

Now, the 28-year-old has revealed that the onscreen could “got close” both on and off screen as they tackled the emotional storyline over the past year.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star and other publications, he said: “Thankfully we’ve always had a great bond.

“When you go through something like this with somebody, you can’t help but get closer to them.”

The actor fondly looked back on their sweet trip to Margate together where they filmed some touching scenes together.

He added: “Obviously, we went away to Margate for a week which was a great week. And it’s that we’re in it together kind of thing and we were all in it together.

“It was another great load of memories which was nice,” he gushed.

Despite filming the emotionally draining scenes on set every day, the cheeky chap shared how the duo keep things light on set in between filming.

The TV Star went on: “It was very tough on the days but it was important to keep it as light as we could.

“It was important for me, when we could, to have a little laugh and joke about it because we are very fortunate, thankfully, that we’re not in that position.”

After 12 years on the BBC soap, Danielle is set to say goodbye to Walford for the last time when her character passes away from the condition during Wednesday’s emotional scenes.
