EastEnders fans were left devastated tonight (December 18), as Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) cheated on Mick (Danny Dyer) with Max Branning (Jake Wood).
‘Linda Carter? Cheat? Never!’ A sentiment that was widely echoed by the nation tonight it seemed, as the former landlady of the Queen Vic had sex with Max after being rejected by Mick.
Viewers will know that Mick recently discovered that he’d been abused by Katy Lewis (Simone Lahbib), but Linda, however, hasn’t got a clue about what he’s going through.
She believes that Mick no longer fancies her, and since she’s been feeling rejected by her husband, she’s sought solace in the lockdown friendship she formed with Max.
After another rejection from Mick, Linda headed over to Max’s house.
‘Listen, you’re not some broken little girl, Linda,’ Max told her. ‘You’re strong. And you’re beautiful. Sexy. You know better than anyone what you need.’
Linda then walked towards Max, and they kissed, before he led her upstairs.
Naturally, viewers were devastated by the development, given that Mick and Linda are often cited as an example of the ‘perfect’ soap couple — one which featured two people who would never dream of straying from one another, or at least that what we thought.
Linda’s established characterisation certainly seemed to dictate that she would never cheat on her husband which is no doubt the reason why so many viewers were upset.
One viewer said: ‘This Linda and Max thing is just so wrong’
Another added: ‘I can’t get over Linda and Max. Never’
Honestly, same.
