Princess Diana’s close friend Debbie Frank has opened up about the first time the late Princess and Camilla Parker Bowles came face to face.

Debbie, who was also Diana’s astrologer as well as confidante, recalled that Diana and Camilla met in February 1989 when Diana decided to confront her about her alleged relationship with her husband Charles.

During the conversation, Diana is said to have taken matters into her own hands and approached Camilla, telling her that she didn't want to be “treated like an idiot.”

Camilla is said to have replied: “You’ve got everything you’ve ever wanted, what more do you want?” To which Diana answered: “My husband.”

Speaking on ITV’s upcoming documentary, Diana, Debbie, who regularly visited her friend for lunch at the Palace after they met in 1989, shared her memories of the confrontation.

She recalled: “Charles was pretty much living at Highgrove [House] and Camilla was very nearby.”

In the fascinating programme, which marks what would have been Diana’s milestone 60th birthday, Debbie continues: “It was a big act of boldness to be able to confront her.”

Yet, she continued: “But, of course, Camilla’s really just an unflinching person so I don’t think it made any difference at all.”

Despite that, Diana had no regrets: "It made a big difference to Diana. She needed to get herself together, which she did."

Debbie also relives her memories of the Diana she knew and loved behind closed doors during the time they spent together.

She recalls: “She was just very open, very much full of contradiction, as most people’s personal and emotional lives are.”

“Diana had just an extraordinary capacity to connect with the public. She had something about her that wasn’t practiced, wasn’t fake.”

Debbie continued: “None of this was manufactured, it was entirely natural."

This is far from the only revelation to come out of the eye-opening ITV programme, which airs on Thursday 24th June.

The special one-off 90-minute documentary charts Diana's incredible life and legacy, from her childhood and school days, all the way up to her rise to the People’s Princess, and eventually her tragic, untimely death on 31 August 1997.
