Samia Longchambon has opened up about the touching way she honours her dad every Christmas.
The Coronation Street actress – who plays Maria Connor in the soap – lost her dad, Joseph, in 2009, after a battle with cancer.
Speaking about her festive plans, the 38-year-old revealed she always makes time to pay tribute to her father.
‘I always go to the cemetery. My dad was a massive fan of whisky, so on his birthday in June, we took a can of whisky and cola and poured it over the soil on his grave so he could have a drink,’ she said.
‘We’ll probably do that again and lay some nice flowers. And we always toast to him. He might be gone but he’ll never be forgotten.’
There is no denying that this year’s festive period will be different for everyone – with Samia and husband Sylvain having a toned down time.
The mum-of-two explained to OK! Magazine that they would normally travel to France to see the professional ice dancer’s family, a meeting that will take place over Zoom for 2020.
However, there will still be traditions in the Longchambon household, with Christmas films playing all day long – as well as matching outfits.
‘We always have matching family PJs,’ she continued. ‘I’ve bought them for the last few years, so we’ll be doing that again.’
While Sylvain added that the karaoke machine may get some attention – which sounds ideal.
Samia has been a staple of our screens for two decades, joining Coronation Street in 2000, and has stolen the show in many storylines since her debut.
And we’ll be seeing her on the cobbles for some time yet, with the ITV star reportedly signing a new deal with bosses.
An insider told The Sun: ‘Samia is delighted after all the uncertainty over the last few months.
‘She knew she just had to be patient because a new deal was always going to be on the table. It was just a matter of when.’
