CORRIE’S Eileen Grimshaw is set to get a new love interest in a romcom-style storyline that will see the character finally getting the happy ending she deserves.
Cobbles boss Iain MacLeod revealed the unlucky in-love mum-of-two will meet someone special thanks to the return of son Todd.
Fans of the soap will remember that Eileen’s last love interest was builder Jan Lozinksi.
Or there was her doomed marriage to evil Pat Phelan. Poor, Eileen. She has no luck.
Iain revealed the taxi coordinator’s new man will be tied up with the return of son Tod, who he said will cause his mum “no end of grief”.
Iain continued: “Eileen’s son will return to the cobbles and cause her no end of grief but it does throw a brand new character into Eileen’s orbit who has deep roots in Corrie.
“He’s one of our archetypal Northern comedy characters who will turn her life upside down in a fun fashion. A will they/won’t they that will keep people guessing.”
Back in May actress Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen, appeared on Good Morning Britain to tease the new romance.
Speaking about her character’s formerly disastrous love life, Sue said: "You can guarantee when one [man] comes in, something's going to go horribly wrong.
"But going forward, who knows? We have Tony Maudsley who is joining us on Corrie, who's playing Archie Shuttleworth's son.
"Let's see what he can bring to the party."
Tony, who played Kenneth Du Beke in the ITV comedy series Benidorm, confirmed that he was joining the cast, saying that he was "thrilled to be joining the cast of [his] favourite show".
"I'm chuffed to be staying at my @itv home and heading to Weatherfield and I for one, couldn't be happier," he added.
