Carol Kirkwood appeared on the 13th series of Strictly Come Dancing and was partnered up with former professional dancer Pasha Kovalev. Sadly, Carol’s Strictly journey came to an end in week seven, where she was eliminated from the competition. On Saturday night, Carol made her return to the BBC series to wish her co-star Dan Walker luck and give him some well-needed advice for his American Smooth performance.
During their week of rehearsals, Dan spoke to his fellow colleagues who had taken part in the competition to some friendly advice.
In a clip of their rehearsals, Dan told Nadiya: “News and breakfast colleagues who have been on the programme before and we work our way through the week and pick up a few nuggets along the way.”
Speaking to Carol midway through the week, Dan asked: “I like to refer to this as moving day, knuckle down get the routine in order, did you do an American Smooth Carol?”
She sheepishly told Dan: “It’s the dance I went out on,” to which Dan and Nadiya giggled at her comment.
“What should we be thinking about on a Wednesday to build us up to the weekend?” he asked.
“Listen to absolutely everything Nadiya gives you and just enjoy it,” she told him before wishing the pair good luck.
Speaking to the camera about the advice he had received from his friends and colleagues, Dan said: “I think their advice really helped.
Dan also spoke to Chris Hollins, who took part and won the show with Ola Jordan on the seventh series of the competition.
On Facetime, Dan said: “Chris Hollins, former winner meet Nadiya Bychkova, my professional partner.”
The pair exchanged their greetings before Dan asked: “American Smooth this week what would your advice be?
Chris told his former colleague: “Lovely long lines, I always closed my eyes and pretended I was Fred Astaire.”
Laughing at his comments, Dan replied: “I know what you mean, you sort of convince yourself that you’re that superstar, and hopefully, a little of that magic rubs off on you.”
Before hanging up the phone, Chris held up his Glitterball Trophy and said: “I want you to proper join the exclusive club.”
On Tuesday, the pair spoke to Kate Silverton, who took part in the 16th series of the competition and was partnered up with Aljaz Skorjanec.
She told Dan: “I used to call this tricky Tuesday, I loved my American Smooth, I think it will suit you as well, seeing you don’t drop Nadiya.”
“They’re encouraging, they know what they’re talking about, and now we just have to go out there and make sure we bring it home on Saturday night.”
On Saturday night, Dan and Nadiya performed the American Smooth to King Of The Road by the Proclaimers.
As they concluded their dance, their fellow colleagues gave Dan a standing ovation as he shouted: “Get in!”
Head judge Shirley Ballas also gave Dan a standing ovation and told him: “From beginner, to lobster, from lobster to lifting and going, some beautiful footwork.”
Dan and Nadiya received a score of 29 out of a possible 40, as they received their first nine of the series, however still placed second to last on the leaderboard.
Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday evenings from 6:40pm on BBC One, and the results show on Sunday from 7:20pm.
