BBC Breakfast fans have hit back at Naga Munchetty after the TV presenter appeared to defend Boris Johnson over the controversial partygate scandal during an interview with Liberal Democrat deputy leader Daisy Cooper.

Earlier this month, the Prime Minister was issued a fine for breaking the law while attending a series of social gatherings at 10 Downing Street while the country had imposed a slew of strict lockdown measures.

He has since come under intense scrutiny from the public, with many MP’s demanding Mr Johnson to resign as further investigations are being held into his social activities throughout 2020.

But during Friday’s (April 22) instalment of the popular BBC One morning show, the 47-year-old came under fire after she appeared to defend the Prime Minister during a heated discussion with the Daisy Cooper.

On the show, the broadcaster and her co-host Ben Thompson welcomed the politician onto to show to discuss the impact of his breach of lockdown rules during the peak of pandemic.

The MP explained her reasons for why she feels that the Mr Johnson should step down after he broke the lockdown rules or take responsibility for his actions.

She argued: “The problem is when the Prime Minister was found out he continued to lie and then lie again and then lie again.

“Here we are many months later in the cost of living crisis …,” she continued.

It was at this point that Naga interrupted: “You know this is a very explosive accusation to accuse the Prime Minister of lying.

“Let’s be very clear, what specifically do you thing the Prime Minister has lied about?”
