He came back to the Bernabeu two years ago having guided Real Madrid to three successive Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018.

But his return did not end as sweetly, with Real losing the LaLiga title on the final day to Atletico Madrid.

And they were also dumped out of the Champions League in the semi-finals by eventual winners Chelsea.

Zidane, 48, was replaced at Real by another former boss in Carlo Ancelotti.

As for the Frenchman, Libertard Digital are now reporting that Zidane has his mind set on waiting for the national team's head coach role to become available.

It is thought he could wait until after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to succeed current manager Didier Deschamps.

Deschamps has been France boss for nine years after joining in the wake of their Euro 2012 quarter-final defeat.

And after another quarter-final exit at the 2014 World Cup, Deschamps took France to the final of Euro 2016 before they were beaten by Portugal in front of a home crowd.

Two years later the team went one step further by lifting the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

And they head into Euro 2020 as many people's favourites to do a World Cup-Euros double.

As a player, Zidane won both the World Cup and European Championships in 1998 and 2000 respectively.

During his career, he scored 31 goals in 108 games for his country, making him the sixth all-time top scorer for France.
