CC Sabathia long ago earned his pinstripes as a member of the New York Yankees. By enforcing one of baseball's unwritten rules, he also earned himself some extra cash.
When Sabathia was ejected for hitting a batter in his final start of the 2018 season, it cost him the chance to reach a $500,000 innings-pitched bonus in his contract.
At the time, Sabathia was praised for sticking up for his teammates when he plunked Tampa Bay Rays catcher Jesus Sucre in the bottom of the sixth inning. He was thrown out of the game and finished the season with 153 innings, two short of the number he needed to achieve his bonus.
